NCAA Football Rankings, Week 8: Stanford slips five spots in AP poll

Stanford's 20-13 loss the Notre Dame Saturday cost them five spots in the AP Top 25 Poll.

The Stanford Cardinal are sitting at No. 22 in the most current AP Top 25 poll released Sunday following their controversial 20-13 loss to Notre Dame the previous day.

That's a five-spot drop from their Week 7 ranking with the Fighting Irish jumping up two spots to No. 5.

As for the rest of the Pac-12, Oregon State was the only team to rise in the rankings moving from No. 10 to No. 8 after their dominating 42-24 road victory over BYU. USC remains at No. 11 after beating Washington 24-14 and Oregon is still settled in at No. 2 with the Ducks having a bye this past week.

Oregon's Week 8 opponent, the Arizona State Sun Devils, are 26th in the nation, receiving 92 votes from the AP. The Arizona Wildcats also received one vote despite not having a game this past week.

The Cardinal will have a chance to work their way back up in the rankings with three easy opponents over the next couple weeks. Following their road matchup with the Cal Golden Bears next Saturday, Stanford draws the Pac-12's other two bottom feeders in Washington State and Colorado.
