The Canadian Auto Workers union said 82 percent of its Ford members accepted the four-year deal. The union did not indicate how many of its 4,500 workers at Ford cast ballots.
The union leadership also reached an agreement with GM last week. GM workers are set to vote on the tentative agreement on Wednesday and Thursday.
Talks continue with Chrysler. The union wants Chrysler to match the deals they have reached with Ford and GM.
The Ford and GM contacts cut wages for new hires and freezes pay for current workers. But it also gives them lump-sum payments to cover inflation and for ratifying the deal.
Under the Ford and GM deals, the companies will pay new workers 60 percent of the current top wage of $33.89 Canadian dollars (US$34.74) an hour, according to the CAW. That would mean new workers would be paid around $20.33 Canadian ($20.84). They can move up the wage scale and reach the top wage in 10 years.
U.S. workers at the Detroit automakers approved a similar two-tier wage agreement five years ago, but in those agreements, workers don't automatically get the top wage after 10 years.
Ford said there will be significant cost-savings realized through the wage structure for new employees. Ford also said the deal creates more than 600 jobs in Canada over the life of the contract.
"By becoming more competitive in our labor costs, we are better positioned to support the growth of the Canadian economy and to provide new job opportunities," Stacey Allerton, vice president of Human Resources at Ford of Canada, said in a statement Sunday.

RABAT (Reuters) - The United Nations' special rapporteur said on Saturday torture against people suspected of national security crimes in Morocco was systematic and urged the country to quickly end ill treatment in its prisons and police detention centers.
At the end of a rare fact-finding mission at the invitation of Moroccan authorities, Juan Mendez told reporters there was also evidence of torture being inflicted on people held in prisons and detention centers in the disputed Western Sahara, which Rabat controls.
Treatment "amounting to torture" appears in Morocco during "large demonstrations, a perceived threat to national security or terrorism," Mendez told a news conference.
"Torture tends to be much more cruel, harsh and systematic in national security issues."
He said torture was not as common as it used to be during "the past decades", but noted his preliminary findings showed cases of "credible reports" of punches, application of electric shocks and cigarette burns.
"In addition, I have good reason to believe there were credible allegations of sexual assault, threats of rape of the victim or family members and other forms of ill-treatment," he told the news conference, attended by relatives of jailed activists and plain clothed policemen.
A spokesperson for the official National Council of Human Rights (CNDH), who attended Mendez' press conference, declined to comment on his findings.
Government spokesman Mustafa el-Khalfi could not immediately be reached for comment.
The U.N. investigator also denounced a rise in "severe beatings, sexual violence and other forms of ill-treatment" on undocumented migrants, many of whom flock from sub-Saharan Africa to Morocco in the hope of moving illegally into Europe.

He urged Rabat to ratify "as soon as possible" the Optional Protocol to the Convention Against Torture, known as Opcat, that aims to prevent mistreatment of people in detention.
Mendez will submit his findings and recommendations, coupled with the Moroccan government's responses, to the U.N. Human Rights Council in Geneva in February.
Torture is a criminal offence in Morocco but no official has publicly stood trial for crimes involving torture.
Mendez said Rabat may need to amend the definition of torture "to bring the offence in line with international law".
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said earlier this month Morocco, a staunch U.S. ally in North Africa, could be a regional model after it managed to contain Arab Spring protests with reforms.
But she urged Rabat to reform the courts, make government more open and respect human rights.
Last week, U.S.-based Human Rights Watch (HRW) urged Morocco to investigate accusations police tortured pro-democracy activists to force false confessions.

PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) ? Portland may not be "a city where young people go to retire," but it's the place they go to be underemployed, a new study found.
A famous quip by Fred Armisen on the television show "Portlandia" led Portland State University researchers to investigate the reality behind the comment. The quirky IFC network series pokes fun at the Oregon city's many eccentricities.
The researchers' review found that Portland is a magnet for the young and college educated from across the country, even though a disproportionate share of them are working part-time or holding jobs that don't require a degree.
In short, young college grads are moving here, and staying, because they like the city's amenities and culture, not because they're chasing jobs. Their participation in the labor force tracks with other cities, but they make 84 cents on the dollar when compared to the average of the 50 largest metropolitan areas, the research found.
"You put all of that together, and it suggests that young people are coming here and they're trying to make the best of it," said Greg Schrock, an assistant professor in urban studies at Portland state. "They're committed to working, they're committed to trying to make ends meet, but they're more committed to living in Portland."
Young people are drawn by a relatively low cost of living, a vibrant arts scene and a collegial, laid-back atmosphere. With abundant public transit, a vibrant bicycle culture and many walkable neighborhoods, there's no need for a car.
"I'm pretty content being able to support myself on a minimum-wage job," said Deanna Horton, 22, who graduated in May from Lewis & Clark college in Portland and is now working the front desk at a science museum. Horton doesn't have a driver's license, but she said the only time she's ever felt she needed one was when she moved across town.
A transplant from Syosset, N.Y., on Long Island, Horton said she'd love to have a more challenging and fulfilling job ? but not enough to give up on a city that supports things like a neighborhood tool library, which gives residents free access to a wide variety of tools for carpentry, home improvement and gardening.
"I feel like my job prospects in other places would be really good," she said, looking over the top of her Apple computer at the popular Stumptown Coffee. "But I don't want to try."
Portland's reputation as the place young people go to retire was cemented with a sketch on "Portlandia."
The Portland State researchers studied Census data from 1980 to 2010 with a focus on young people, ages 21 to 39, with a college degree. They found that the migration of those people to Portland had already begun in 1980 and was consistent throughout the 20-year span. Portland was the only major city that never saw a lull in migration, even during recessions.
The data suggest that young people continue flocking to Portland, in good times and in bad.
And they're coming from places large and small. While young college graduates tend to move to larger metro areas, Portland had a net gain in migration from cities large and small.
The researchers found that Portland is indeed a popular place to retire. Not for young people, but for empty-nesters and retirees, whom Portland attracts and retains at a higher rate than similar cities.
But will it continue?
The researchers don't know for sure. Portland clearly has a powerful draw for the young graduates, but the cost of living that makes it possible for them to live here may not continue forever. The rental vacancy rate has plummeted, so rent is rising, and not everyone is willing to live in a place with a weak labor market.
"There's a very select group of migrants that would be able to work through those challenges financially," said Jason Jurjevich, an assistant professor of urban studies.

Where gravity exerts a pull on other objects in space, dark energy pushes objects apart, causing the universe to expand at an increasing rate.
The name dark energy was coined shortly after the phenomenon was discovered ? in no small part to convey its mysterious nature.
Some theorists posit that dark energy is the cosmological constant first proposed, then withdrawn, by Albert Einstein. Einstein invoked it as he worked out the implications of his theory of general relativity for the evolution of the universe. His equations pointed to the eventual collapse of the universe under its own gravity, but the universe at the time was widely thought to be static. So he added a cosmological constant to his calculations to keep the universe from collapse.
A cosmological constant would permeate the universe in ways that would induce it to expand at an increasing rate.
Others have proposed that dark energy varies with time and may even be a fifth fundamental force of nature, dubbed quintessence. Since it varies, it could be a repulsive force or one that attracts, depending on other conditions in the universe.
Whatever the explanation, "we believe dark energy became the dominant force driving the large-scale evolution of the universe several billion years ago," says Joshua Frieman, a researcher at the Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Ill., and the director of the Dark Energy Survey project. "So we want to go back somewhat farther than that to see whether the properties of dark energy have changed over time ? since that would give us clues to its nature."
The Dark Energy Camera, bolted to the back end of a 4-meter telescope high in the Chilean desert, aims to hunt for dark energy through its influence on some of the universe's largest visible structures, peering back through time to a period when the universe was roughly 5 billion years old. During its five-year run, the camera will survey about 1/8th of the sky.
The discovery of dark energy is a classic case of scientists pursuing one objective stumbling on something profound in the process.
Two teams of scientists working independently first reported the discovery of dark energy?s effect in 1998 and 1999. The research teams had aimed to measure the expansion rate of the cosmos at different periods in its history.
To do that, they hunted for light from a particular type of exploding star as a tool to help them clock the rate at which the universe is expanding following the Big Bang, a sudden release of energy that spawned the visible universe some 13.8 billion years ago.
The species of supernovae the teams hunted, so-called type 1a supernovae, reach the same peak intrinsic brightness wherever they explode. For a time, a supernova's light can outshine the light from its host galaxy. Because light dims at a known rate as it travels, measurements or estimates of peak brightness of a supernova's light when it reaches Earth can reveal the distances to the galaxy hosting the explosion.

WASHINGTON (AP) ? Midway through a routine Internet search, James Carter IV stumbled upon a video that just didn't seem right.
The grandson of former President Jimmy Carter and a self-fashioned Democratic opposition researcher, the younger Carter had watched countless hours of footage of Republican Mitt Romney and made it a habit to search YouTube every few days for keywords like "Romney" and "Republicans."
But on this day in August, one clip jumped out. There was Romney, in an undisclosed location, bluntly discussing a visit to a Chinese factory with substandard conditions.
"The hidden camera video ? it was all blurred out at the beginning, and it was mysterious," Carter said. "It piqued my interest."
Something told him there might be more there than the brief clip posted on the YouTube channel "Anne Onymous." Although not affiliated with any campaign or super PAC, Carter had made it a personal mission to help get Democrats elected in 2012 ? and to do his part to push back against Romney's relentless campaign-trail mockery of his grandfather.
So Carter, 35, of Atlanta, set out track down the source of the video. He sent a message to the YouTube user seeking details. No luck. But then, after sharing links to the video on Twitter, Carter realized he had a new follower with the same name as the YouTube account. He quickly shot off a direct message.
"They were wary at first," Carter said in an interview with The Associated Press. "But they did respond."
What followed was a delicate, concerted effort to convince the source ? still unknown to the public ? that Carter could be trusted, and that the world had to see the rest of what was surreptitiously recorded as Romney spoke in May to donors who had paid $50,000 a person to attend the private fundraiser.
In a string of Internet conversations, Carter showed the source evidence that he had helped David Corn, a journalist with the magazine Mother Jones, report a story about Global-Tech Appliances Inc., a Chinese firm that Romney's Bain Capital briefly invested in. Both Carter and the source suspected it was that firm's factory that Romney was speaking about in the video.
"That gave me credibility," Carter said. "They opened up to me a little bit."
Soon after, Carter persuaded the source to trust Corn with the full video ? on the condition that he keep the source's identity a secret. Corn ran with it, using clues in the video to triangulate when and where it had been recorded.
Then on Monday and Tuesday, Corn posted the clips to his magazine's website, sparking a firestorm for the Romney campaign over remarks claiming that nearly half of Americans "believe they are victims" deserving government help and that the Palestinians have no interest in peace with Israel.
"James: This is extraordinary. Congratulations! Papa," the former president told his grandson Tuesday morning in an email obtained by the AP.
For Carter, whose Twitter profile notes he's looking for work, his success in unearthing the video was followed by a string of job offers Tuesday, from the Ohio Democratic Party to online news sites like The Huffington Post and ThinkProgress.
But the coup de grace for Carter is the irony that Romney has spent many months assailing the elder Carter's record on everything from foreign affairs to small business policy, hoping to saddle the incumbent president with the less popular vestiges of his Democratic predecessor.
"I've gotten a lot of Twitter messages from people supporting me and saying that it's poetic justice that it was a Carter that uncovered this, considering the way that the Romney campaign has been talking about my grandfather," Carter said. "I agree with that sentiment wholeheartedly."

DUBAI (Reuters) - Al Qaeda's affiliate in North Africa urged Muslims to kill representatives of the U.S. government in the region in retaliation for a film that mocks the Prophet Mohammad, saying it welcomed last week's revenge killing of the U.S. ambassador in Libya.
"We congratulate our Muslim rebel brothers who defended our Prophet's honor... and we tell them: the killing of the U.S. ambassador is the best gift you give to his arrogant unjust government," al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb (AQIM) said in a statement posted on Tuesday on a website used by militants.
AQIM, al-Qaeda's North African arm, urged Muslims, particularly in Algeria, Tunisia, Morocco and Mauritania, to "kill U.S. ambassadors and representatives or to kick them out and purify our land from their filth to avenge" the Prophet's honor.
The film "Innocence of Muslims", clips of which were posted on the Internet, portrays the Prophet Mohammad as a womanizer and has provoked an outcry among Muslims and triggered violent attacks on embassies across North Africa and the Middle East.
Four U.S. officials including the ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, were killed in the east Libyan city of Benghazi last Tuesday after anger over the film boiled over.
U.S. and other foreign embassies were stormed in other cities in Asia, Africa and the Middle East, and on Saturday, Afghanistan's Taliban claimed responsibility for an attack on a base which killed two U.S. Marines, saying it was in response to the film.
At least 17 people have been killed since Tuesday in the violence, which prompted Washington to send troops to bolster security at its missions.
AQIM emerged out of Algeria's civil conflict but it has gradually expanded south into the Sahara and has raised its profile in recent years, partly through hit-and-run attacks on regional armies but mainly by kidnapping Westerners for ransom.

Sex can be, well, kinda gross. So how do we have sex?
Once we?re turned on, it turns out, it gets harder for icky stuff to turn us off. Women, anyway. Gross things just don?t seem as gross when gals feel amorous. So says a study in the journal PLoS ONE. [Charmaine Borg and Peter J. de Jong, Feelings of Disgust and Disgust-Induced Avoidance Weaken following Induced Sexual Arousal in Women]
Researchers found that sexual arousal dampens the disgust response in women, both in the bedroom and outside of it. In the study, three groups of women?unaroused, generally aroused, and specifically sexually aroused?were assigned a series of tasks associated with a disgust response.
Some tasks were sexual, like lubricating a vibrator. Others were really unsexy, such as drinking from a cup with a big insect in it. Sexually aroused women were the most ready to lubricate sex toys?but they were also less squeamish than the other women about drinking from the bug cup.
The goal is to advance the treatment of sexual dysfunction and the lowered levels of arousal that can underlie it. So that people will say yes to the mess.

PHOENIX?? A judge has ruled that police in Arizona can immediately start enforcing the most contentious section of the state's immigration law, marking the first time officers can carry out a requirement that officers, while enforcing other laws, question the immigration status of those suspected of being in the country illegally.

The decision on Tuesday by U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton is the latest milestone in a two-year legal battle over the requirement. It culminated in a U.S. Supreme Court decision in June that upheld the provision on the grounds that it doesn't conflict with federal law.
Story: Judge OKs Arizona's show-me-your-papers lawOpponents who call the requirement the "show me your papers" provision responded to the Supreme Court decision by asking Bolton to block the requirement on different grounds, arguing that it would lead to systematic racial profiling and unreasonably long detentions of Latinos if? enforced.
Other less controversial parts of the law have been in effect since July 2010, such as minor changes to the state's 2005 immigrant smuggling law and a ban on state and local government agencies from restricting the enforcement of federal immigration law. But those provisions have gotten little, if any, use since they were put into effect.

Five states ? Alabama, Georgia, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah ? have adopted variations on Arizona's law.
Despite the decision that lets Arizona's questioning requirement take effect, some backers of the law questioned the level of cooperation they will get from federal immigration agents, who will be called to verify people's immigration status and be responsible for picking up illegal immigrants from local officers.
High court strikes down parts of Ariz. immigration lawFederal immigration officers have said they will help, but only if doing so conforms to their priorities, including catching repeat violators and identifying and removing those who threaten public safety and national security.
If federal agents decline to pick up illegal immigrants, local officers in some cases will likely have to let them go unless they're suspected of committing a crime that would require them to be brought to jail.
Video: Brewer: 'Heart' of immigration law proven constitutionalTo the supporters of Arizona's law, the questioning requirement was the most salient part of the statute, whose stated purpose was to make attrition through enforcement the state's immigration policy. Immigrant rights groups believe the requirement presented the most opportunities for civil rights abuses.
Among the opponents of the law was the Obama administration, which filed a challenge that led to the most controversial parts of the statute being put on hold.
Shortly before the law was to take effect in July 2010, Bolton prevented police from enforcing the questioning requirement and other parts of the statute, ruling the Obama administration would likely succeed in showing federal law trumps the state law.
Gov. Jan Brewer, who signed the measure into law, appealed the ruling, lost at the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and took her case to the Supreme Court. The Obama administration failed to persuade the nation's highest court to strike down the questioning requirement on the argument that federal law trumps the state law.
A coalition of civil rights, religious and business groups then asked Bolton in July to prevent police from enforcing the questioning requirement. They offered different reasons in trying to put the brakes on the provision.
This time, the opponents sought to block the provision by arguing that Latinos in Arizona would face systematic racial profiling and unreasonably long detentions if that section is enforced.
Lawyers for Brewer urged the judge to let the requirement go into effect. They argued that the law's opponents were merely speculating in their racial profiling claims, that police have received training to avoid discriminatory practices and that officers must have "reasonable suspicion" that a person is in the country illegally to trigger the requirement.
Bolton denied the coalition's request on Sept. 5.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) ? Two years ago, BYU saw its hopes of winning in Salt Lake City dashed by a last-second blocked field goal.
Saturday night, the 25th-ranked Cougars had two late chances only to have the same result, this time a 24-21 loss to Utah.
"Where do I begin?" Utah head coach Kyle Whittingham said. "We should be 4-1 because we won this game three times."
BYU, once down 24-7, stormed back and was driving for a potential tying field goal. A last gasp pass fell incomplete, and frenzied Utah fans ran onto the field thinking the game was over.
Not so fast. Officials reviewed the play and found that one second remained when the pass hit the ground.
They cleared the field, and Justin Sorensen lined up for a 51-yard attempt, only to see Star Lotulelei block it.
The Cougars would get yet another shot, from 15 yards closer, since the crowd had rushed the field again with a live ball, and Utah was assessed a penalty.
Riley Stephenson's 36-yard attempt with no time left clanked off the left upright, sending the Paint It Red fans back on the field for good to celebrate the upset.
"I can't describe that ending," Utah quarterback Jon Hays said of a game that was tied at 7 at the half. "That's something I'll remember when I'm 85 and with Alzheimer's. That's the craziest finish I've ever been a part of and probably the craziest I've ever seen. I'm happy and proud of this team."
The win gave the Utes (2-1) a new outlook on the season, especially with USC's loss to Stanford and losses by fellow Pac-12 South foes Arizona State and Colorado.
The loss, meanwhile, is sure to knock BYU (2-1) out of the Top 25, and could hurt the Cougars' hopes for something better than a Poinsettia Bowl.
"Right now, all I feel is heartache," said BYU quarterback Nelson, who waited seven years for this opportunity after a one-year stint with Utah State then a two-year church mission.
He brought BYU back with three late drives, including a 1-yard TD pass to Kaneakua Friel that pulled the Cougars within 24-21, and would finish 17 of 35 for 206 yards. But he also was intercepted once, sacked four times and was tagged with the fumble that Moe Lee returned 47 yards for a touchdown.
He blamed it on crowd noise as the snap came while he was barking out instructions.
Lee saw only the end zone.
"Once I saw Moe pick up that ball, I knew no one would be able to catch him," said Utah defensive end Nate Fakahafua. "It was sweet to watch him run it all the way in."
While Nelson showed grit and refused to quit, so did Hays, who was 18 of 27 for 196 yards with two touchdowns.
He opened the scoring with a 17-yard pass to Westlee Tonga, who tallied his first career TD reception. He also tossed a 39-yarder to Dres Anderson to give Utah a 24-7 lead late in the third quarter.
"Having a leadership role was nothing new to me," said Hays, chosen to start over freshman Travis Wilson just as he filled in for an injured Wynn last year. "It was just last year, deja vu, but I'm more prepared and my play showed. Now there are no more surprises."
The game brought plenty for the Cougars, however, starting with BYU's opening possession.
The first snap scooted low past Nelson, who scooped it up in the back of the end zone and was about to be tackled when Joe Kruger grabbed his face mask, voiding the safety and giving the Cougars a first down at the 20.
BYU punted six plays later and Charles Henderson's 57-yard return set up Hays' 17-yard touchdown pass to tight end Tonga, who made a one-handed grab over linebacker Kyle Van Noy.
Special teams continued to be game-changing, with Utah converting a fake punt on fourth-and-2 from its 24, only to see the drive end when Russell Tialavea blocked Coleman Petersen's 37-yard field goal attempt.
BYU's Sorensen, who had been injured throughout fall camp, was wide left on a 44-yard field goal attempt in the second quarter.
The Cougars finally got on the board with 4:40 left in the half on Nelson's 10-yard touchdown pass to Cody Hoffman, who extended his consecutive game streak with a catch to 22 games.
Utah would win despite being without starting free safety Eric Rowe (hamstring) and running back John White (ankle).
"We were tough, resilient and bounced back from a tough loss last week and played with grit and determination," Whittingham said. "The offense didn't get a lot of yards but (it) didn't turn the ball over either."
Utah finished with just 49 yards net rushing, the first time in two years they won a game without White gaining 100 yards.
In rivalries, sometimes stats don't matter.
"You can't ask for more than that," BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall said of the two late chances. "We had two tries and you ought to be able to kick the ball through the uprights."
Utah, which has now won three straight from its bitter rival and eight of the last 11, can only hope for more of the same.
"I'm so glad it was their kicker that hit the post," said Utah kicker Petersen. "I've had that feeling and this feels much better."

MAKING A STATEMENT
Here we go again.
Alabama and LSU are Nos. 1 and 2. It's almost as if last season never ended. The Crimson Tide and Tigers held the top two spots for eight weeks in 2011 before finally playing a rematch of a regular-season game for the BCS title, which Alabama won.
The difference this year is Alabama is No. 1 and LSU is No. 2, instead of vice versa.
Blame Southern California for the latest Southeastern Conference takeover.
USC was preseason No. 1 in a close vote and slipped to No. 2 after Alabama throttled Michigan to start the season. Then on Saturday night, Stanford handed the Trojans their first loss, 21-14 on the Farm.
So we're back where we were last season, waiting for Alabama and LSU to play in the first weekend of November, and wondering if either will be upset along the way.
It doesn't seem likely.
"We have really been fighting against allowing ourselves to accept average," Tide coach Nick Saban said after a 52-0 demolition of beleaguered Arkansas.
The Tide faces Florida Atlantic and Mississippi over the next two weeks, and then takes a week off. After that come road games at Missouri and Tennessee, followed by a visit from No. 23 Mississippi State on Oct. 27.
The big game in Baton Rouge, La., is on Nov. 3.
LSU, which has outscored its opposition 145-37, has played an easier schedule than Alabama to this point. But going forward, its slate is tougher than the Tide's. The Tigers are at Auburn next week, followed by a home game against Towson. Then comes a road trip to No. 14 Florida and a home game against No. 7 South Carolina. Those could be tricky.
A game against Texas A&M and a week off precede the Alabama game. The Tigers finish with home games against Mississippi State and Mississippi and a road game at Arkansas.
And what about another rematch of LSU-Alabama in the title game?
Well, let's get to Round 3 first before we start that again.

MOVING UP
No. 9 Stanford shot up 12 spots after beating USC for the fourth straight season, and No. 11 Notre Dame rose nine places after dominating Michigan State 20-3 in East Lansing, Mich.
The Cardinal are proving there is life and prosperity after Andrew Luck. The assumption was when the two-time Heisman Trophy runner-up moved on to the NFL, Stanford would slip back into the Pac-12 pack.
Well, it seems as if the Cardinal are going to be a conference contender again. New quarterback Josh Nunes is no Luck, but the foundation of Stanford's success since Jim Harbaugh took over the program in 2007 has been power.
"I have been saying it for years, even before I became head coach: This game isn't about who you play, it is about how you play," said coach David Shaw, who replaced Harbaugh last season.
The Cardinal's running game sputtered in its first two weeks, cranking out only 247 yards total against San Jose State and Duke.
Stepfan Taylor and Stanford looked more like themselves against USC with 202 yards on the ground. On defense, the Cardinal's big and strong front seven led by Trent Murphy and Chase Thomas exposed USC's one offensive weakness ? its line.
Without Luck, Stanford is still a tough and physical team.
Tough and physical are now a way to describe Notre Dame ? for the first time in a long while.
Behind linebacker Manti Te'o and defensive tackle Stephon Tuitt, the Irish smothered the Spartans, allowing 237 total yards, only 50 on the ground.
The Irish and Cardinal meet in South Bend, Ind., on Oct. 13.

MOVING DOWN
There were signs last week, in No. 13 USC's 42-29 victory against Syracuse at MetLife Stadium, that the Trojans' line play would be a problem.
Even before the season, there were fears that USC's defensive line looked thin and the offensive line less-than-dominant. But there was so much talent and skill on both sides of the ball, including Heisman Trophy favorite Matt Barkley at quarterback, it was easy to overlook potential problems.
"We obviously did not have an answer (for their defense)," Barkley told reporters after the game.

IN AND OUT
No. 24 Boise State and No. 25 Nebraska, after brief exits, are back in the rankings, and No. 23 Mississippi State is in the Top 25 for the first time in a bit more than a year.
The Bulldogs are 3-0 for the first time since 1999, though getting there was tougher than most probably expected. Mississippi State won 30-24 at Troy on Saturday.
"We jumped into the polls and we did not perform at our best. I hope it's a real motivating factor," Mississippi State coach Dan Mullen said Sunday.
Falling out were Tennessee, BYU and Virginia Tech.
The Hokies suffered maybe the most surprising loss of the weekend, falling 35-17 to previously winless Pittsburgh.
Virginia Tech is unranked for the first time since October 2010, snapping a string of 29 polls.

The Seminoles, coming off a 52-0 victory against Wake Forest, host No. 10 Clemson at Doak Campell Stadium on Saturday in a game that should go a long way to determining who wins the Atlantic Division of the ACC.

No. 18 Michigan beat UMass 63-13 and dropped a spot in the polls. Seems odd, but don't take it personally, Wolverines fans. Michigan received 19 more points this week from the media panel, but essentially Stanford and Notre Dame's rises pushed the Wolverines back a spot. Michigan is at Notre Dame on Saturday. ... The other Top 25 matchups this week are No. 15 Kansas State at No. 15 Oklahoma and No. 22 Arizona at No. 3 Oregon. It feels as if the Ducks' season hasn't even started after easy victories against Arkansas State, Fresno State and Tennessee Tech.
